About Laboratories

History and Outlook.

Established in 1951, the Laboratories were formerly known as the Radio Research Agency, Directorate General of Telecommunications, and Institute of Communications Engineering, Ministry of Transportation and Communications. When Chunghwa Telecom started privatization and transformation in 1996, the Laboratories were re-structured and eventually became the “Chunghwa Telecom Laboratories” in 2012.

Way back in 1973 the Laboratories took part in the foundation of the semiconductor industry in Taiwan. That year, decades ago, seven dominant figures in Taiwan had a breakfast meeting in a soy milk shop on Nanyang Street in Taipei City. The Laboratories have been dedicated to the development of telecom technologies for a long time and have been involved in many and various applications of information and communication technology and have advanced research programs in many. We are a renowned R&D institute in the information and communication field in Taiwan. We also work with famous international think tanks.

The Laboratories have been devoted to the R&D of 5G and its relevant vertical fields for a long time. Given that various industries in Taiwan will make great strides in the future, we will continue to keep abreast of the technology.

Self-growth.

In addition to work achievements, we help our staff with self- improvement and encourage them to pursue further education, provide education subsidies as well as paid leave, and also have an internal training and education system across various fields. We continue to enrich our library collection, and encourage our employees to enhance their skill and obtain professional certification.

We encourage staff clubs: sports, music and even languages. Our people can broaden their horizons and enrich their working lives through many leisurely activities.

Friendly Workplace.

We care for our staff and their families. We encourage our staff to make the best of flexible working hours and various statutory leave such as special leave, parental leave, and family care leave, to have a healthy work-life balance.

We care for family life and provide parental and educational subsidy measures in different stages, friendly female partners; and renovate the kindergarten to give our staff peace of mind at work and during parenting.

We care for the health of our people and provide annual physical examinations, healthcare counseling and education. We regularly hold various sports events and encourage our staff to take time off and value their health and welfare.

The Yangmei Campus has a large hinterland and natural ecology with relaxing shaded trails, lake scenery, and various sports fields which help boost the mood at work.

To reduce the exhausting commuting for some, we have built a single dormitory on the Yangmei campus, which complies with green building standards and provides safe and comfortable living space.
